Pledge of Allegiance must end! posted a photo:
Los Angeles officials asked that suppliers of computer equipment stop using the terms "master" and "slave," saying such terms are offensive. The terms are sometimes used in reference to computer equipment. rexcurry.net/wordmaster.html
It is unclear whether the official policy applies to the words "Mr." and "Mrs." (Mister and Mistress) which are forms of "Master."
It is unclear whether the official policy applies to the words "Slav" or "Slavic," the origin of the word "slave."
News outlets reported that a "discrimination complaint" alleged "offended sensitivities." The media did not report whether any Slav or the descendant of a Slav made the complaint. No one asked the Slavic community for comments at all.
If it hasn't been done already, a complaint can be filed against the terms "Mr." and "Mrs." and "Slav" so that Los Angeles officials can expand their policy.
Reporters recounted that in 2000, the Los Angeles City Council supported federal legislation seeking reparations for descendants of slaves. Not a single reporter revealed how much money any Slav descendant might receive, nor even whether the Slavic community supports the legislation.
In the Hawaii Reporter Newspaper, the etymologist Dr. Rex Curry explained that the word "slave" has the etymological root "Slav" because Slavs were often enslaved ("Too Politically Correct: Los Angeles Bans 'Master & Slave' and 'Mr. & Slav,' published 12/1/2003). "Slavic" refers to a lot of people, including Caucasian, Slovak (Czechoslovakian), Slovene (Slovenia & parts of Austria & Italy), Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, and Russian.

People who continue to be classified as "Whites" (as distinguished from people who are classified as "blacks") were enslaved around the world -- especially the Slavs, from whom the word is derived in both European languages and in Arabic.
According to the syndicated columnist Thomas Sowell, white slaves were still being bought and sold in Egypt years after the Emancipation Proclamation had freed many blacks in the United States.
Not only does slavery predate the U.S., slavery is a practice that socialists and communists perpetuated well beyond the end of slavery in the U.S., perpetuating slavery even into the 1950s, arguably beyond.
Soviet socialists diverted the rivers that fed the inland Aral Sea and used them to irrigate vast cotton fields where socialist slaves were forced to pick cotton (This is not a joke). Many of those socialist slaves actually were slavs (the etymological root of the word "slave" due to the fact that even farther back in history, slavs were slaves. The Aral Sea was once the world's fourth-largest body of fresh water, covering an area the size of Ireland. But then the nation around it were enslaved by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Their looney planned economics and leviathan schemes shrank the Aral by 90 percent to a string of isolated stretches of water. Long after Soviet socialism collapsed, the Aral Sea began to recover.
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics even dictated the manufacture of a watch bearing the name "SLAVA." Thus, it was a watch built by socialist slaves under dictates of socialist slavery and it was named "slava." rexcurry.net/slava-watch-soviet-socialist-slaves-ussr.jpg
Eventually the USSR realized the negative connotations of the watch's name in the West. The name was changed to "Craba." In Cyrillic, the word "slavs" is "славянин."
In addition to imposing slavery, socialists also perpetrated genocide. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Peoples' Republic of China and the National Socialist German Workers' Party perpetrated the socialist Wholecaust (of which the Holocaust was a part): ~60 million slaughtered under the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; ~50 million under the Peoples' Republic of China; and ~20 million under the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

On August 23, 1939, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics joined with the National Socialist German Workers' Party to invade Poland in a pact to divide up Europe. The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSGWP) invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, and Soviet Socialists followed shortly thereafter (Sept. 17). In their role as allies, Soviet Socialists slaughtered more people in Poland than did German Socialists. rexcurry.net/socialists.html
...............................................
Throughout history, the Serbs have been situated between two important cultures: the Byzantine East (Islamic East) and the Latin West. They were subjugated into slavery by the Moslem Turks for over five centuries during the Middle Ages.
Slavs were the origin of the word "slave" in European lanuages and in Arabic.
The word "Slav" is also related to the word "Serb," which is related to the origin of the words "serf" and "serve" and "servitude," again via the same root concept of "slave."
Under socialism, Slavs and Serbs became slaves once again: socialist slaves.
After the collapse of the Soviet Socialism, Slavs and Serbs celebrated freedom again.
After the collapse of Soviet Socialism, the Slava watch factory and its property were expected to be rescued from socialism and returned (sold) on the open market, in economic freedom, and capitalism, as private property for retail development.
Today, the word "slava" has many meanings in Russia, Serbia and other countries. "Slava" often is praise and glorification for deliverance from slavey. It is often directed toward a saint believed to have interceded for deliverance. A Slava sometimes celebrates the day that a family's main ancestor killed his first Turkish soldier during the wars between Serbia and Turkey. Slava celebrations have many parallels to Passover celebrations, including commemoration of exodus from slavery.
The Slava celebration revived in Serbia after the fall of the socialist regime in Yugoslavia.
The doomsday clock of socialism continues to symbolize the threat of shortages, poverty, misery, starvation, atrocities and mass slaughter. The closest that the doomsday clock came to striking midnight was during the years occupied by the the hate-spewing paramilitary societies created in the socialist trio of atrocities (above). They killed more people than would three nuclear bombs. The world still has not rejected their philosophy of socialism and the deaths mount as the bomb's clock keeps ticking.
slavs = славянин
glories = славы

Not the best of shots, but I wanted something to document one year of watch collecting.
I started off this terrible watch addiction late 2008 by buying two 3AKA3 (ie military issue) Vostok Komandirskies, one white, one black dial. I broke the white dial version (I reckon a watch repairman could get it running again, but it’s in the watch box for now).
Without sounding horribly pretentious, I initially thought I would collect watches with in-house movements. This, however, brought me to Seiko. So in-house they make their own oils. . . Since then I’ve been focusing on handwind Seiko dress watches of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s and, more recently, I’ve been interested in their classic divers of this era (the 6309-729A is slightly later, being from 1987).
Seen here, from left to right, are:
HMT Pilot, white dial, on Timefactors olive drab canvas
Seiko SKX031, on Divestraps leather
Seiko 7005-8027, on Timefactors black canvas
Seiko 66-0010 (handwind) which is on a glossy, black imitation croc
Seiko 7000-8000 (handwind) white dial, 1970 birth year watch!
Seiko 66-8050 (handwind) with black dial, on a solid oyster bracelet
Seiko 88-5051 stopwatch
Seiko 6300-8009 (handwind) blue dial, currently awaiting service and a band/bracelet
Vostok Komandirskie 3AKA3
Seiko 6309-729A - original apart from bezel - it's going to go on an incoming William Jean SEL Super Oyster II. The ultimate vintage Seiko beater!
Seiko SNK809 “Flieger,” which I put on black leather
Seiko 6105-8110 - all original; the grail!
